Stricter Laws Don't Bother Criminals

By it's very definition, a criminal is someone who breaks laws. In fact, you'd be safe to say that "lawful" is an antonym of criminal. So, please explain that rationale behind this:
The absence of required background checks for private firearm sales, like those made at gun shows, have helped fuel the steady flow of U.S. firearms to Mexico, where thousands of trafficked weapons are ending up in the hands of violent drug cartels, U.S. government investigators revealed last week.

The news has renewed the call among gun-control advocates and some Democratic lawmakers to tighten the nation’s firearms laws to make it more difficult for criminals to buy and smuggle weapons.

Give me a break. You can't make it more difficult for criminals to buy guns by passing more stringent firearm laws. They're criminals. They will break the laws to get access to the guns. Why? Because, that's what criminals do.

So, if you pass these new more stringent laws, who are you impacting? Oh, that's easy. You're making it harder for law abiding citizens to arm and protect themselves and their loved ones against... well, criminals. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

A Reason to be Armed

A 62 year old disable veteran is attacked for being neighborly:

Morris, a disabled veteran who doesn't drink, was talking to people sitting near him at the restaurant when several men began yelling at him for talking to their girlfriends, family members told the Daily Times.

"My husband is the type of guy who never sees a stranger. If you're sitting in the table next to him, you're going to be talked to," the victim's wife, Kathleen Morris, told the paper.

When Morris and his wife tried to leave the restaurant following the altercation, the men followed him outside, the Daily Times said.

"He said, 'Just leave me alone, all I want to do is go home,'" Kathleen Morris said. "The guy that was in his periphery hit him in the temple and knocked him out., and all three or four of the young males started kicking him in the head, in the stomach, they stomped his hands, they took kidney shots."

There is a gun show this weekend at New Mexico Fairgrounds.

Obama's Inartful Statement

What the heck is an "inartful statement?"

ABC News' Teddy Davis and Alexa Ainsworth Report: With the Supreme Court poised to rule on Washington, D.C.'s, gun ban, the Obama campaign is disavowing what it calls an "inartful" statement to the Chicago Tribune last year in which an unnamed aide characterized Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., as believing that the DC ban was constitutional.

"That statement was obviously an inartful attempt to explain the Senator's consistent position," Obama spokesman Bill Burton tells ABC News.

The only thing consistent about Senator Barack Obama's position on the Second Amendment is that he is against protecting the rights of law abiding citizens:
But the campaign of Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said that he '...believes that we can recognize and respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners and the right of local communities to enact common sense laws to combat violence and save lives. Obama believes the D.C. handgun law is constitutional.'
Well, thank goodness the majority of the Supreme Court of the United States has a better understanding of the Constitution than Democrats nominee for President. Senator Obama's stance on this issue is a frightening reminder of why he should not get our vote in November.

Sitting on Both Sides of The Fence

The Governor Bill Richardson we all know and love (subscription) is back:
Gov. Bill Richardson says on the presidential campaign trail that he wants to close a loophole that allows some gun buyers to walk out of gun shows without a criminal background check.

That's a 180-degree turnaround from his position as a candidate for re-election to the governor's office.
You've got to love a politician who can consistently talk out of both sides of his mouth - time and time again.
